Read about what Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach has done for these young students and alumni.

If I am being honest, the first time I went to Hillel was for free food and a zoom Shabbat service. After this, I was encouraged to sign up for the Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF). This was the best decision that I made during my first semester on campus. The fellowship introduced me to a community of supportive individuals and helped me discover my own Jewish identity. Actively participating in the fellowship persuaded me to attend more events with Hillel. Through zoom shabbats, bagel brunches, and coffee dates at Starbucks, I met all the individuals who I call my best friends today. Although my first year on campus was mostly online, Hillel presented me with the opportunity to get involved on campus and make the most of these difficult times. They even offered support while I spent the High Holy Days locked in a quarantine. Not only does Hillel host events and meetings about Judaism, they also have opportunities that allow students to connect with one another on deeper topics such as social issues, current events, and mental health. Through actively participating in Hillel, I became more comfortable with the people I was surrounded by. Looking at it from a point of view where everyone was once a stranger to me, many of the students and staff are the ones I rely on when times are tough.

Moving across the country from Detroit for college was not only a complete change in environment, but also challenging as I started my freshman year during a pandemic. The first week of college, I attended my very first Hillel event and was greeted with open arms. I knew from that moment on that I had found my home away from home.
My freshman year I had the opportunity to participate in JLF through Hillel. I met so many amazing women who I can now call my friends, and if it weren’t for JLF, I would have never formed these relationships. In addition to all the amazing friendships that formed, I was able to challenge and expand my knowledge in my understanding of different aspects of Judaism.
Although my freshman year was unique in many ways, Hillel continued to make me feel like I was part of a loving and accepting group of individuals that I am beyond grateful to have met.

Growing up in Jacksonville. I was the only Jewish kid. I never really had a place where I felt at home and could be myself. It wasn't until my first Shabbat my freshman year where I knew I wanted to get involved. Throughout my time at Hillel I made best friends and realized what it meant to be a pro-Israel advocate. Being involved at Hillel was one of the best experiences I've had. Throughout my ups and downs in college I knew the people at Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach would always be there for me. Hillel helped me find my voice from being AIPAC Liaison to being on the Student Board of Directors. Being involved in Hillel has helped me become the person I am today.

Hillel has always been a place on campus I have always held close to my heart. It is a place where not only students interact with each other, but it is also a place that is known for its amazing staff, that genuinely cares about each student that walks through the door.
Hillel has a variety of Jewish programming that gives the opportunity for students to engage in meaningful discussions and have a better understanding of Jewish culture and life. The yearly alternative spring break trip is one Hillel program that has really helped me grow into the person I am today. Learning the meaning behind tikkun olam, and applying it to my life through service, I can say has inspired me in more ways than one.
Thank you, Hillel, for making my college experience one I will never forget!
Love,
